Artistic spaces are some of the most vibrant small businesses in our community. From art studios to storefronts like bookstores, wine lounges and restaurants. These spaces not only embrace, they promote the arts and give locals something fun to look forward to on the weekends. They are great examples of entrepreneurship that pair well with creativity. McAllen Arts District is currently being blessed with a bloom of local creative spaces, reviving the artistic flair of Main Street and nostalgia for the “Old Art Walk Days.” Learn more about McAllen’s growing artistic spaces and the folks who keep the creativity flowing in the city.

McAllen's Art District Galleries

Ante Books has grown to become McAllen’s favorite indie bookstore, now showcasing creative work in their expanded gallery along Bicentennial and Hackberry. In addition to serving as a learning and studio workspace, they’ve featured local artists like Mariana Prado and most recently, the exhibition “Hear me out,” in collaboration with Flowershop Residency, which showcases visiting creatives. Hosting everything from book clubs to bike rides, Ante Books is definitely worth checking out for a good read, a fun workshop or a creative time.

Run Pony Run is one of McAllen’s newest contemporary art spaces, located in the heart of the McAllen Arts District, near Archer Park. Led by Orchestra singer and artist Zachary James, the gallery is tucked behind Tiscareño Bridal, his partner, Manuel Tiscareño’s showroom. The two-story gallery has featured international and local artists through large group shows, including its most recent exhibition, “Narrativas 956.” Events like “Opera at the Atelier” and other creative offerings, such as the live ballet-painting performance, bring the creative party vibes to Main Street.

Support McAllen’s Local Art Spaces

With its diverse array of galleries and creative spaces, the McAllen Main Street Art District is feeling fresh and alive once again. It is about time because the sad and frankly depressing Art Night days at the McAllen Creative Incubator do not reflect the city’s vibrant arts scene. We know that McAllen and the upper Valley deserve better. That is why supporting these small businesses and galleries that are stepping up to keep the city’s culture alive is so important.

Check out these awesome galleries and support local art!!
