While reproductive rights have been under attack, it’s thanks to reproductive justice organizations that consistently put in the work that we can know that our bodies have rights that cannot be taken from us. No matter the kind of fear perpetuated on Texans through abortion laws, such as House Bill 7 (HB7), which went into effect on December 4, and allows private citizens to sue anyone who manufactures, distributes, or provides abortion-inducing medication in or to Texas.

A Reproductive Justice Town Hall Meeting: What Is It?
The Texas Abortion Advocacy Network (TAAN) hosted its TAANHall series this year. According to a press release from The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas (ACLU of Texas), the series aims “to strengthen community connections and discuss opportunities to improve reproductive health care in the state.”
The TAANHalls included a brief Know Your Rights (KYR) overview, which helped Texans understand their rights to their bodies by hearing from experts and community leaders about how they can support reproductive freedom in their local communities.
So far this year, TAAN has hosted its TAANHalls tour in cities such as Austin, Houston, Denton, and Amarillo. Still, TAAN didn’t forget the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) by traveling to McAllen and Brownsville in late November, demonstrating its commitment to providing reproductive justice resources and education for all Texans, no matter where they live.
But TAAN’s commitment doesn’t stop there: the ACLU of Texas, one of TAAN’s partner organizations, hosts the TAAN Academy, a 10-week virtual training series taught by reproductive freedom experts that provide participants with tools to lead in their communities.
Although the session is closed for sign-ups, you can keep up with both TAAN and the ACLU of Texas to learn when the next cohort will open, as this is an opportunity you do not want to miss if you are passionate about reproductive justice!

Support Reproductive Justice Organizations
Wanting to have an abortion should not be so impossible to obtain, even if Texas lawmakers make it their life’s mission to prevent access to it. But by learning and engaging with reproductive justice organizations in Texas and in the RGV, we can all be more informed about the rights our bodies have, because, regardless of the fearmongering and intimidation, we do have rights!
If you would like to be more engaged with the reproductive justice efforts taking place, stay connected with TAAN and all of the wonderful organizations that are part of it, such as the ACLU of Texas, and several other abortion advocates from across the state, including South Texans for Reproductive Justice and Frontera Fund, one of the RGV’s local abortion funds!
An important note: Frontera Fund will be celebrating a decade of fighting for abortion access in Texas, so make plans to support them during their 10-year celebration this Saturday, December 13, at Quinta Mazatlan.
If you need more repro-events to attend, stop by Love Letter Coffee the following week to create a “2026 Repro Justice Moodboard” by Never Before Zine and Frontera Fund’s Street Team. Show your support for your local abortion funds and advocates because your support is all the strength they need to continue fighting for reproductive freedom for all!
