We took a trip to the International Museum of Art and Science (IMAS) in McAllen, Texas and experienced everything it has to offer. We had a few hours of exploring the museum with the help of Andrew Idrogo, the Marketing Coordinator at IMAS.
Andrew took us to look at the water distribution installation brought back by McAllen Public Utilities. This interactive installation takes young kids through each step of the water distribution cycle, from rainfall to purification to its eventual use in our homes. Even our 26-year-old content director said, “That was super fun!”
Afterward, we ventured into the BioZone Lab, where kids and adults are welcome to explore biology through interactive games and scientific models. The coolest part about this area was all the live little animals that the museum staff takes care of daily, including their 7-year-old bearded dragon, Ryujin.
We also stepped inside a dark room, where we observed Science on a Sphere, a year-wide exhibit designed by the Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which uses custom technology and video projectors to share information about our local planetary system. We watched as the sphere turned from Mars to Earth in a seamless transition, and a voice shared facts about our little blue planet.
Our team had a fun time exploring Seed to Table, sponsored by H-E-B. This exhibit teaches children about food, including how it grows, basic food groups, and how it reaches our markets through an interactive shopping experience.
Lastly, our team walked through the museum art exhibition space, which has four areas where international and local art exhibits are displayed. We took the time to observe all their exhibitions, one of which included IMAS’ 2nd Annual Member Juried Art Show. Up on the wall were art pieces from the four winners of the Individual Membership giveaway we did back in September. In fact, you can be the next winner this month!
